Odisha also is known as Orissa is an Indian state that is located on the eastern coast of India. Odisha being home to around 1000 temples is a dream state for all the religion heads out there. Because of its beautiful sceneries, views, temples, etc this state is a great tourist attraction. Orissa is really popular for its ancient and beautiful temples. One can visit this state and regain their spirituality or increase their faith. For others they can look at the magnificent architecture, pretty carvings, delicate sculptures and also they can listen to some breathtaking mythological stories.

1]Jagannath Temple-

Jagannath Temple is located in the city of Puri. It is one of the most sacred places of pilgrimage. It is a temple that is dedicated to Lord Krishna. This temple is a place of very high religious importance. And it sees a lot of pilgrim’s every year. This temple is spread across 400,000 square feet. This temple has some magnificent sculptures the temple has 4 districts Deula, Vimana or Garba griha (Sanctum sanctorum) where the triad deities are lodged on the Ratna Vedi (Throne of Pearls). In Rekha Deula style, Mukhashala (Frontal porch), Nata mandir/Natamandapa, which is also known as the Jagamohan (Audience Hall/Dancing Hall), and Bhoga Mandapa (Offerings Hall). Wanna know a creepy fun fact it is said that the flag on the top of this temple flows in the opposite direction of the wind. It is a temple one should really visit.

2]Maa Taa Tarini Temple-

Considered as one of the Shakti Peethas in India, Maa Tara Tarini Temple is positioned on the banks of River Rushikulya. This temple is located on the banks of river Rushikulya. It is said that whatever wishes you make in this temple come true. And the great Chaitra Mela is celebrated inside this temple. A lot of information is not available about this temple but it is said that it was made in the 17th century and has 999 steps.

3]Sun Temple-

This temple was built in the 13th century and it is said to be dedicated to Lord Surya. This temple has a very peculiar design. It is said to be made in the shape of the sun gods chariot. It is made using the Kalinga architecture. Europeans called the temple ”the black pagoda”. The walls of this temple have very erotic and delicate sculptures. It is said that this temple has a sundial that shows the perfect time during day and night. It is accurate. This temple is also a world UNESCO heritage site.

4]Lingaraja Temple-

Lingaraja temple is the largest temple in the state of Odisha. This temple was built in the 8th century and it is sanctuary shaped. The temple is the most prominent landmark of Bhubaneswar city and one of the major tourist attractions of the state. It is said that the temple has around 6000 per day and it receives lakhs of visitors during the holy festival of Shivratri. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. There are carved structures of Goddess Durga, Chamunda, Bhairava, and other deities inside the walls of this temple. This is definitely one of the most beautiful and important temples in Odisha.

5]Mukteshwar Temple-

Mukteshwar temple is yet another temple that is located in the capital of Odisha Bhubaneswar. The temple has been existing since the 10th century. The 10th Mukteshwara means ” lord of freedom”. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is yet another great show of the Kalinga architecture. It is smaller compared to the other temples but it is really beautiful. The temples are enclosed within an octagonal compound wall with elaborate carvings on it. The Department of Tourism of the state government organises a three-day yearly dance function called Mukteswar Dance Festival in the temple is really worth it visiting this temple because it is really old and shows the old architectural style.

6] Brahmeswara temple – This temple is located in old Bhubaneswar and is dedicated to Lord Shiva .

7] Gundicha Temple- This temple is located in Puri and is dedicated to Lord Jagannath.

8] Parsurameswar temple- This temple located in Bhubaneswar and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Other than that it has more 900 temples it is definitely a place every religious person should visit.  It is said that people rediscover their lost faith here.
