Jim Corbett: an adventurous jungle.

UJim Corbett national park is a park that is located in the state of Uttarakhand and is named after a well-known hunter and naturalist. This park is set amidst the foothills of Himalayas and is home to a lot of flora and fauna and also some rare species of tigers. This park is a treat for all the nature lovers as well as all the nature lovers. This park is spread over 500 sq km covering over riverine belts, hills, marshy depressions, lakes, streams and grasslands. The Park is divided into 5 zones: Bijrani, Dhikala, Jhirna, Domunda and Sonanandi and all of them have different gates. A visit to Jim Corbett is incomplete without a jungle safari. Other than that there are many resorts where on can chill.


Jim Corbett is really rich in terms of natural resources because of the favouring climate. It is said that this national park is home to about 600 different species of trees, shrubs, herbs, bamboos, grasses, climbers and ferns. Some of the ubiquitous trees in Corbett are Sal, Sissoo and Khair. Many other species that contribute to the diversity here, are found scattered throughout the park. Other than that one can find trees like Chinchoti, Banj oak, Kanju, Amla, etc. It has flowering plants like Kachnar, Semal, Indian coral, Amaltas, etc. Other than that it has over 70 different species of grass. It is basically a heaven for all the tree lovers and nature admirers.


Jim Corbett is gifted with several rare species of animals and birds. It is home to over 586 migratory and resident birds including birds like the crested eagle, blossom headed parakeet, red junglefowl, etc. 33 species of reptiles, seven species of amphibians, seven species of fish and 36 species of dragonflies have also been recorded. One can find other mammals like deer species (Barking, Sambhar, Hogg and Chital), Sloth bears and Himalayan Black bears, Indian Grey Mongoose, otters, Elephants, Yellow-throated Martens, Ghoral (Goat-Antelopes), Indian Pangolins, and Langur and Rhesus Monkeys. There are local crocodiles, python, cobra, etc.

Corbett waterfalls-

Located in the middle of dense forests the Corbette waterfalls is definitely a sight nobody can miss. It is generally suggested to visit this area during the full moons to get the best experience of the waterfall. It is 66ft high waterfall with a very cool environment and amazing views. All the nature lovers generally come here to camp and have a picnic.

Kosi river-

Kosi river is yet another famous tourist attraction which is filled with some amazing picturesque views. This a really famous picture spot for people. One can come here sit-in peace and explore nature at its best. This river technically originates from the Darphani Dhar and it is a major source of water for all the animals that love here .

Dikhala forest lodge –

Dikhala forest lodge is the most famous tourist destination in Jim Corbett. The lodge is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience this wilderness in all its primitive glory. Generally, elite tourist and nature lovers come and stay because it is located exactly inside the forest and one can view animals from the lodge itself. This lodge is a historic site too because it was built during the British times. One can see animals like Bengal Tiger, Asiatic elephant, hyena, fox, barking deer and many other.

Durga Mandir-

Durga mandir that is located inside this park is yet another famous tourist destination. This temple is dedicated to the goddess Durga. This temple is of historical importance. One can view the ancient architecture style here. Generally, tourists are pretty shocked because of the temple exists right in the middle of a dense forest. This is a lovely temple for all the Durga worshippers .

Activities to do here-

1]Jungle safari is one of the best things one can do here. Because they cover a huge geographical area during the safari. There are five safari zones here the Bijrani zone, the Jhirna zone, the Durgadevi zone, the Dhela zone, and the Dhikala zone. One can view exquisite rare animals like Royal Bengal Tiger, jackal, wild boar, Himalayan bear, elephant, barking deer, sambar deer, hog deer, Sloth, Himalayan goral and many other species of animals.

2]One can also undertake Elephant tours there. Which takes people right back to their childhood. One can tour to places like Bijrani, Khinanauli, Gairal, Jhirna and Dhikala regions whilst sitting on the elephant back.

3]River rafting is yet another adventure sports one can undertake here. One can enjoy fast river rafting in the river Kosi. And watch all the amazing views on the way. Other than river rafting more adventure sports have been arranged here.
