All the men might already be aware of the ritual of "No Shave November" among the current generation. But for many its just a reason for social embracement without knowing the actual reason behind celebrating the no shave November. Basically, it was a movement started by a non profitable organization no-shave.org. They basically wanted to spread cancer awareness among the people around the globe and this movement did gain a lot of attention just in a little span of time.
The goal of No-Shave November movement is to grow awareness about cancer by embracing and growing out our hair, which many cancer patients lose. Later, Donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming yourself to educate people about cancer prevention, to save lives and help those who lack the funds to fight it.
In a study conducted by a premier medical research body it was seen that, India was likely to have over 17.3 lakh new cases of cancer and over 8.8 lakh deaths due to cancer by 2020 with cancers of breast, lung and cervix topping the list. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) estimated the total number of new cancer cases in 2016 to be around 14.5 lakh and the figure is likely to reach nearly 17.3 lakh new cases in 2020. Itw as also evaluated that only 12.5 per cent of patients come for treatment in early stages of the disease. These astonishing numbers show us the wide spread of the cancer which is estimated in the coming years, therefore its important that we take some serious measures to deal with it.
The story behind No Shave November
No-Shave November has been a tradition for many years but it wasn't’t until the fall of 2009 that members of the Chicago land Hill family decided to use it as a means to raise money for charity. It was a project that held special meaning to the eight Hill children after their father, Matthew Hill, passed away from colon cancer in November 2007.
Participants in No-Shave November have always been willing to ditch their razors and, more recently, donate to cancer fighting foundations. But what started as an easy way for a few followers on Facebook to donate their hard-earned money has turned into a nationwide celebration. Every November for the past six years, these No-Shavers have donated the cost of grooming (from a few dollars on razors to $100 on a salon visit) and helped our organization raise over $2 million dollars to date. As a family run, web-based organization, No-Shave November has grown exponentially since 2009.
The rules to participate in the movement are very easy. An individual can easily Participate by growing a beard, cultivating a mustache, letting those legs go natural, and skipping that waxing appointment. The rules are simple:
- Avoid using your razor for the next 30-days and denote the amount you would save from it.
- Participation of any kind is encouraged; grooming and trimming are perfectly acceptable.
This movement definitely proved how even a small initiative towards something could result in something as amazing as this. So this November, Let the hair grow .
